After Øyvind Holm’s critically acclaimed «The Unreliable Narrator» from 2022, here comes «Paradox of Laughing». Where last year’s album had drawn inspiration from the somewhat dark synth landscapes of the 70s, this follow-up probably plays more on Holm’s fascination with late 60s pop, and often with light psychedelic undertones. Several of the songs have a more acoustic foundation, but the arrangements are all the more magnificent in their extensive use of strings, backing voices and exotic instruments.

The physical release of the album is sure to please vinyl enthusiasts. The release comes as a deluxe edition on green vinyl and a very elaborate «split opening» cover.

Design and layout is by Håvard Gjelseth, while the cover art is by the German artist Marco Wagner. It all gives the album a visual packaging that harmonizes perfectly with what Holm wants to convey both through the album’s title and its ten songs.

With «Paradox of Laughing», Holm has delivered an album that will stand as a significant chapter in his impressive musical catalogue. We dare say that several of these tracks are among his most magnificent songs – so far.
